Under 12's need a Government Health Warning

The current Wootton Bassett under 12 team should carry a government health warning. Parents and coaches should be advised to limit there intake of Junior Football or face the certainty of heart failure. Straight after the kick off Ferndale broke through the centre and the unfortunate Chris Edwards brought the striker down inside the area. The resulting spot kick was slammed into the roof of the net giving the deputising keeper, Brett Embling, no chance. Last season this would have signalled goodbye Vienna and an avalanche of goals conceded. Not any more. The team has found an inner strength and, as they did against Old Town the week before, managed to gradually claw there way back into the game and it was no surprise that Ben Curtis casually chipped the ball over the advancing keeper after being gifted with the ball from a Ferndale goal kick. After the break Bassett found themselves under pressure and good play from Ferndale down the Bassett left flank saw a cross played into the box. Although they appeared offside Ferndale caused panic inside the 6 yard box. Bassett failed to clear the ball and Ferndale smashed the ball through a crowd of players to make the score 1 - 2. Again Wootton Bassett dug deep and despite the muddy surface pushed for the equaliser. A free kick was awarded just outside of the Ferndale area. Harry Fitzwilliams stepped up and, although the ball struck the Ferndale wall, the referee awarded a penalty for hand ball. Harry coolly slotted the ball high into the Ferndale net. A double substitution saw Jon Coniglio and Drew Blinkhorn come on for Craig Hunt and Joe Leedham and constant pressing of the ball saw Bassett gain the upper hand. Now it was all one way traffic towards the Ferndale goal and with 5 minutes remaining some terrific play from Harry saw his cross go to Ben Curtis. His initial shot was parried but he followed up and toe poked the ball home. Bassett managed to see out the remaining minutes with only the occasional scare and the 3 - 2 score line was just reward for all the boys' hard work and endeavour.
