This reverse fixture of our home match against Ferndale earlier in the season saw a complete mirror image of the entire fixture. Wootton Bassett started well playing into a head wind. Good defensive play and the constant threat of a breakaway made for a tense end to end start. AFter 10 minutes a poor clearance from the Ferndale keeper went straight to Ben Curtis and he returned the ball straight into the left hand corner of the net. The game continued with Bassett holding the Ferndale attack. 15 minutes into the first half the ball was played out to Craig Hunt and he set off on a great run, beating three Ferndale defenders and knocking in a fantastic ball to Harry Fitzwilliams who, cool as you like, smashed the ball into the roof of the bet from ten yards out. This move was easily the best of the season. At this point the boys were cruising to victory but somebody pressed the panic button and within the final five minutes of the half Bassett gifted Ferndale two soft goals. For the first a poor clearance from defence gave the ball away. Straight away the ball was played wide left and the cross was met and dispatched into Jack Mason's goal. The second came from a Bassett corner. The ball was played in and two Bassett players played and missed the same ball. The loose ball was knocked forward and the chase was on, unfortunately Ferndale won the race and the half ended 2-2.

The second half was a crappy affair with both teams going close. Ferndale had two efforts cleared off the line, one from Brett Embling and one from Deane. Bassett played Ben Curtis in but his goal was adjudged offside .Unfortunately the goal that mattered came from poor defending both in midfield and at the back and Ferndale ended up winning a close game 3-2. Well played Bassett, lets really dig in and try and take something from Brunel in the last two games of the season.
