Fine performance in friendly win against Ferndale

Bassett turned in a fine performance against a spirited, but not full strength, Ferndale side that finished one place above them in the league. For long periods in the game Wootton Bassett dominated the opposition with some strong challenges and some great passing, and every time the team moved forwards they looked like they would score. Indeed if they had been more clinical in front of goal the final score could have been much higher. Straight from the kick-off Bassett looked the better side and time after time both Ben Curtis and Harry Fitzwilliams were put through on goal. This was a period when they should have scored more than they did but by half time they were three up, Harry Fitzwilliams scoring two and Brett Embling the other.

The second half was much like the first with Bassett constantly moving forwards, although Ferndale did manage to create two or three chances themselves. But inevitably Bassett extended their lead and eventually ran out 9-0 winners with further goals from Harry Fitzwilliams (2), Ben Curtis (2), Craig Kelly and Matt Buckingham. It's hard of things to say when the team has played so well and won so convincingly. The whole team played their part and it showed that Bassett are developing a good, strong squad. Goalkeeper Jack Mason played for the first time in quite a while after recovering from a nasty shin infection and did well, and Brett Carr had an outstanding game at right back, but like I said the whole team did exceptionally well.
