Best league performance to date

The under 12's shook off the defeat in there last game against Liden with a good performance and a fine 6 – 1 victory against Stratton at Ballards Ash. The match began with Bassett attacking and within 2 minutes Brett Carr swept the ball home from inside the Stratton penalty area. This start set the mood for much of the match with WB constantly moving forward and looking to extend their lead. The next 10 minutes saw Wootton Bassett hit the back of the net twice more only to have both disallowed for off side. The home side kept the momentum and only mix ups and poor finishing prevented a cricket score, however constant pressure saw Craig Hunt make it 2 – 0 at half time.

After the break Stratton were more determined and nearly scored immediately from the kick off, but Chris Edwards chased back and covered as the ball hit the post and went off for a goal kick. This should have given WB a wake up call but again they allowed Stratton to come onto them. The ball was knocked forward and with Brett Embling facing his own goal his back pass should have cleared the danger. Unfortunately the pass was too weak, allowing a Stratton player to run on and score past Jack Mason. With this Wootton Bassett decided to start the second half and a flowing move saw Harry Fitzwilliams make the score 3 – 1. This was the start of o purple patch for Bassett where they hit the cross bar twice, hit a post and scored 3 more goals from Phil Barber, Brett Embling and Callum Walsh making the score 6 – 1. This was our best result playing league football and all credit goes to the players. Well done everyone.
