Bassett lose friendly against the top side at Under 10

Well beaten on the day by probably the best Under 10 team in North Wilts. There was some positive play, especially in the second half, but in general Cirencester was the strongest team and well deserved their win. Bassett gave the visitors too much room and respect and did not close down. We did miss the tackling skills of Brett Fairclough and Vincent Tapster, but still fielded a strong team which should and could have done better. Our passing was short and inaccurate, and this allowed Cirencester to take control of the game and run it at their pace. Cirencester's passing and movement was quality, they challenged for every ball and scored some excellent goals. An enjoyable day, apart from some complaining and unsporting behaviour from some Cirencester parents (green welly and burberry brigade), who spoiled what otherwise would have been a friendly and entertaining match. Who would be a referee!

This was Jake nd John Gosling's last game with the club, and a presentation was made between the games. John received a signed football from all the squad, and Jake received a Bassett kit for both to keep and remember their years at Bassett. Thanks to John for all the time spent every Saturday and most Sunday's training and coaching. And thanks also to Jake, who has been with the club since 1999, Under 7's, and has been instrumental in the success enjoyed by the team. A mention also for Joe Gosling (Jake's Mum) who has been one of the best parents in terms of helping out, collecting subs, washing kit, and general organisation - all will be sorely missed.
