Our first league game of the season, and our first home league game at Ballards. Debut appearances for Phillip Parsons in goal and Vince Tapster, both players fitting into the team well, and playing some excellent football. Guest appearances from Jake Gosling and Sam Munton on loan from Swindon Town, without fixtures this weekend. Bassett started lively and commanded the game from the start, constant pressure and some fine teamwork saw a hatful of chances to score, but the final touch from the Bassett forwards, and some desperate defending from Stratton kept the ball out of the net. Totally against the run of play, and frustrating for the team, Stratton broke away twice in the first ten minutes to score two fine goals, giving Phillip Parsons in goal no chance. Full credit to the team as they continued to apply pressure, make quality accurate passes and attack in numbers. Our first goal opened the floodgates and our confidence was high, with goals in quick succession from Tucker Blinkhorn, James French and Jake Gosling, ending the half 3-2 up.

We started the second half the same way we finished the first. Bassett was hungry for the ball, and this showed as we was first to every loose ball, giving Stratton no time to create any form of attacking play. Another first class performance from James Lownds in defence, who battled hard and made some excellent forward passes. Second half goals scored by Brett Fairclough, Vince Tapster, Sam Munton and an excellent goal from Alec Daley. A well deserved win and fine team performance with seven different players on the score sheet. Sam Munton who came on in the second half was a joy to watch, and totally commanded the midfield, rounding off a first class performance with a fine goal. We was extremely pleased to see Alec Daley play well up front, scoring the best goal of the game from some quality build up play.
