Under 10's never really got going in friendly with Highworth

With no league game this weekend, a friendly was arranged away against Highworth. With two new players, and the loss of another player to Swindon Town (James French) some changes were required, and this unsettled the team. It was a very cold, wet and windy Sunday afternoon, and Bassett never really got going. We played well at times, and the game was fairly even for long periods, but it was Highworth that put in that extra bit of energy and effort into the game and were deserved winners at the end.

Bassett man-of-the-match was Vince Tapster, who worked very hard and was really unlucky not to score on two occasions, both good saves from the Highworth goalkeeper. Our usual passing game went out of the window, and our midfield play was below par. At times the Bassett players bunched and made short passes, that were easily intercepted by Highworth. We lacked strength in attack, and we could not finish. As we all know, chances must be put away, and we had at least 3-4 good opportunities to score.

Both Highworth goals scored on the counter attack, and both goals were quality. James Lownds, Dominic Gordon (who was not 100% fit) and James Stansall played very well at the back, and Brett Fairclough had a good game in midfield. Tucker Blinkhorn played well on the left wing and Rhys Jones played well. Phillip Parsons had an excellent game in Goal, and is improving all the time. Big thanks to Mark Collett and his team at Highworth for the hospitality and very friendly atmosphere.
