Bassett go down in a sporting contest

Bassett totally dominated the first half with some excellent passing and movement, the only thing we lacked was a goal. The Malmesbury keeper played well and saved from Reece Postill, Ian Hunt and Daniel Payne. The defence marshalled by Ian Hunt and George looked really solid with Robbie Pamphillon only having to make one real save during the first half, a good save with his legs when their striker was through on goal.

The second half looked full of promise. We changed goalkeepers with Jon replacing Robbie. Although we started well we conceded an early goal and the fluent football of the first half became somewhat ragged. Malmesbury then scored a second. We then began to play again and created some good openings which we failed to take due to some fine goalkeeping and some poor finishing. Final score 2-0 to Malmesbury. Overall we played well as a team and the score line flattered a very physically big Malmesbury side. Special mentions to Ian Hunt who played really well throughout and to the two goalkeepers for brave efforts. The final whistle saw all the players shake hands along with the customary three cheers. It was notable that during this match when two Bassett players got accidental taps on the ankles the Malmesbury player immediately apologised, what a contrast!
