Bassett U10's open the season with friendly win

Great first game of the season. Bassett U10 played four solid 10 minute periods against Highworth. Playing at Rylands Way on the first team pitch all the players had to cover a massive amount of turf. No one more so than MOTM Brett Fairclough. Playing in the centre of midfield he dominated the game. And with a goal to boot made his first game his best to date. Jake Gosling our only lefty opened the scoring with a well struck driven goal. He worked hard all the game closing down Highworth defence and distributed intelligently. James French (Frenchie) the youngest in our squad played out of his skin to control the right side of our attacking trio. He worked hard the whole game often without support, he did not falter.

Alex Crook played centre forward on his football debut, he took to the task very well. Tucker Blinkhorn on the right of mid battled the whole game forcing play which resulted in three of our goals, Tucker scoring one himself. James Lownds illustrated again just what a good player he is closing down and, winning balls in the left of midfield. Sean Miles impressed today creating chances for himself and others. The defence was really impressive, captained by Dominic Gordon, they communicated extremely well and played Highworth's attackers out of the game. Reece Postill had a solid game, as did Ian Hunt, Perhaps his best game to date. Vince Tapster our newest player really showed his mantle slotting into the team very well. Phillip Parsons (Frazier Digby) consolidated on all the good work he has done in the summer and gave a very confident display in the sticks, and a clean sheet.

I would like to convey a personal thank you to: The lads from Highworth who battled well and made a game of it. All those that helped, Ian's Mum (tuck shop), Dominic's Uncle 'Witty' (Line), Bretts Dad (Line), and Tuckers Dad (Ref), and Roger and Rod for allowing the game to take place at Rylands. A special thank you to Pete Yeardley who gave up his time to watch the game.
