Five-star Supermarine blow Bassett away

Swindon Supermarine proved far too strong for Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the final friendly before the start of the new season as the Southern League Premier Division South side ran out comfortable 5-1 winners.

The visitors overpowered Sam Collier's team, racing into a 3-0 half time lead before adding to their tally in the second half after Alan Griffin had reduced Bassett's arrears.

James Harding gave the visitors an early lead after neat interplay deep inside Bassett territory opened up room to shoot inside the penalty area.

Zack Gotwica's provided a glancing header to Ryan Campbell's expert right wing cross to double Supermarine's lead before an outstretched Harry Williams added a third on the stroke of half time.

The second half was a goalless affair until the 86th minute when Griffin produced a powerful back post header to guide home Bailey Gallagher's cross.

But the visitors quickly restored a three goal advantage as Harding curled home a beauty from 25 yards from Jamie Edge's short free kick.

Conor McDonagh then fired in on the turn to complete the scoring.
