Demkiv duo deliver first defeat

The Southbank, 29 August 2022

So Royal Wootton Bassett Town won't finish this season unbeaten after all.

In a closely fought, rather scrappy and at times heated Wiltshire derby, Sam Collier's side narrowly suffered their first defeat of the season as hosts Corsham Town prevailed 1-0.

Corsham's dangerous Demkiv duo did all the damage that was required as Daniel teed up Callum before half time for what proved the game's only goal.

In a contest of very limited chances, Bassett were then unable to find a way back into the game - with their cause not being aided by Jack Hobson-McVeigh's controversial sending off for a second bookable offence.

With that, the first month of the season ended with the team's first loss.

But Bassett can be hugely proud with the highly impressive August they have had which - prior to this match - produced a six game unbeaten run, three league wins and an extended FA Cup run. Even with this loss, Bassett have still yet to concede more than just a single goal in a game.

The goal now is to return to winning ways - and to take the form they've shown in the early stages of this season into the autumn and winter months.
