Wootton Bassett Town made it six games unbeaten in the Hellenic League Premier Division with a fine 2-0 victory over seventh place Ardley United.
Goals in either half from Steve Robertson and Dan Bailey helped Paul Braithwaite's team on their way to only a third triumph in 22 league games against their Oxfordshire opponents.
On a windy night at the Corinium Stadium, it was the visitors who had the lion's share of possession. Yet a solid rearguard effort from Bassett ensured they rarely troubled. This helped the hosts recorded only their fourth clean sheet of the season in all competitions; the last shutout in the league came back in August away at Newbury.
Robertson put Bassett ahead in the 24th minute thanks to a neat left foot finish from twelve yards.
Bailey then doubled that advantage - and made sure of the points - with eight minutes remaining, scoring with a long distance drive that the makeshift Ardley 'keeper Kevin Brock made a meal of.
The three points lift Bassett back up to eleventh in the table after they had slid while idle over the past two Saturdays. A record league finish is now within their grasp, though to make certain of that they will have to take points off the next three visitors to the Corinium Stadium - Oxford City Nomads, Brimscombe and Thrupp and Holyport - all of whom are just below Bassett in the table.
