Gambling ensures Bassett strike it lucky late

Petersfield Park, 5th November 2014

A late Nathan Gambling penalty secured a league double for Wootton Bassett Town against Cheltenham Saracens as Paul Braithwaite's team overturned a 2-0 deficit to triumph 3-2.

A sorry opening half hour left Bassett staring down the barrel towards defeat against the Hellenic League Premier Division's bottom side as Saracens raced ahead.

However a Dan Bailey strike as half time neared secured a foothold in the game.

The visitors eventually levelled midway through the second period as Callum Wright's fine shot from the edge of the area found the net.

Then, in the dying minutes, a handball in the box provided Bassett with the chance to win, and Gambling made no mistake.

It was by no means a vintage performance, with Bassett escaping Cheltenham with three points by the skin of their teeth. Yet a win is a win and this one was vital.
