Traas secures share of the spoils

Northcourt Road, 20th September 2014

A last minute equaliser from Henry Traas extended Wootton Bassett Town's unbeaten run as they shared four goals with Abingdon United.

Paul Braithwaite's team have now gone four games without defeat, though a difficult week awaits with early league leaders Highmoor Ibis and Ascot United set to visit the Corinium Stadium in the week ahead.

Bassett jumped into an early lead on eight minutes. A Shaun Terry corner was cleared straight back to the forward and he delivered into the box again, finding Dan Bailey who scuffed an effort into back of the net.

While winless, Abingdon – who have enjoyed a successful FA Cup run - were going to be dangerous opponents. And they equalised late in the half, taking advantage of their visitors conceding possession from their own throw in. The ball was eventually played to Anaclet Odihambo who coolly lobbed Ben Mitchell.

Then shortly after the hour mark the hosts went ahead as an unfortunate George Drewitt turned into his own net, though Odihambo would claim the goal was his.

But Bassett were dealt a good hand as both Cameron McNeil and Kieran Davis saw red for Abingdon.

Yet, despite the game being there for the taking thanks to their numerical advantage, Bassett were only able to muster a goal to earn a point as Traas fired in after he jumped onto a scrambled clearance.
