A bad night at the office

Corinium Stadium, 20th August 2014

After three difficult away games to begin their Hellenic League Premier Division campaign, Wootton Bassett Town may have expected some form of respite as they returned to the Corinium Stadium for their home opener. That didn't materialise though as Bracknell Town stormed to a 5-0 victory to leave Paul Braithwaite's team stunned.

Two goals in the first half's dying stages were the turning point of the game, the visitors gaining clear headroom despite the opening period's even nature. Eight minutes before the break, Shane Cooper-Clark did enough to put 'keeper Ben Mitchell off, allowing Jordan Rowland's inswing free kick to creep in. Then minutes later Adam Cornell headed in from a Rowland corner.

Bassett did force some pressure onto Bracknell early in the second half, but any hopes of a comeback were killed in the 54th minute when Rowland crossed for Cooper-Clark to volley home.

It was soon four, with Rowland yet again at the heart of the action as his free kick was headed on before Ryan Coupland added the finishing touch. Rowland then had a hand in the fifth shortly after the hour as he received, shot at goal and saw his effort deflected in off Richie Carter.
