Robertson strike earns just reward

Corinium Stadium, 10th December 2014

Following a pair of humbling losses, Wootton Bassett Town took a step back in the right direction with a 1-1 draw against Binfield that earned a richly deserved point.

Despite facing one of the Hellenic League Premier Division's high-flyers - and a side who thumpeD Bassett on the season's opening day, this was no draw earned in fortunate circumstances. Rather Paul Braithwaite's team challenged gamely throughout and matched the Moles.

During the first half there were rather few chances for the hosts, though they managed to preserve a stalemate going into the break. It was a matter therefore of preserving concentration in the second period to make sure that a result remained on the cards.

Failing to clear their lines shortly after the restart, Bassett did fall behind as Josh Howell pounced. But Bassett equalised on the hour when Steve Robertson latched onto a Steve Yeardley and drove a piledriver of an effort home.

The scorer then almost had a second when he hit over from a taking Ryan Thomas pass, while Binfield were also forced to clear off the line.

A point it was though. And against high calibre opposition like Binfield, that is certainly something worth settling for.
