Lack lustre Bassett lose again

Todays game saw us travel to a near top of the table Swindon Rangers, who just a few weeks ago we held to a one all draw.

The game started brightly and for the first ten minutes Bassett had the better of the play, passing it around and getting into space, but unfortunately, we didn't build on this and soon found ourselves under pressure from the opposition. The break through came for Swindon Rangers when bunching in midfield by Jake, Jed and JD allowed them the take a clear shot at our goal from outside of the area and straight into the top corner. Once again, from going one nil down the failing lack of confidence started to show through, already we were beginning to give up, we gave the Rangers too much space and time on the ball which enabled them to have plenty of chances at our goal. We were not quick enough to close them down and from goal kicks by George the Rangers were always first on the ball straight back on the attack. There second goal summed the first half up – a goal kick by them went straight through our whole team and ended up in back of our net – to make us two down at half time.

Some harsh words were needed at half time, questioning the commitment of the boys, who majority seemed dis-interested in playing. Changes were needed and Louis was bought on in defence instead of Callum to pair up with a Wills (welcome back). The team started playing better but again were failing to pick up on the Rangers players who always seemed to have more on the pitch than us, a resulting corner saw three of their team on the edge of the box lined up to take a shot at us and one of them did manage to get a foot on the ball, through the goalie's legs and in to make it three nil.

With JD off and Callum now put into midfield to see if a break through could be found, we did have some good play, good running again this week by Jed, nearly found Josh up front who was unlucky again not to add to his tally of goals this week, Louis who was in defence in the second half played well and instead of trying to walk the ball out of danger, which has been one of our down sides in previous matches, he just cleared it away, putting it out for throw ins etc. Wills who has returned to the side from a break away played his first game back and again done well – possibly the man of the match today – with some good clearances. Good to have him back.

The Rangers fourth goal came about much the same as their second – a goal kick by them up through the middle found their front man who slotted the ball into the net.

The final whistle came up on us with the final score a lost of four nil, but we are getting better and not conceding as many now as we did at the beginning of the season. The aim is to remain focused, I did speak to the boys at half time and as said earlier questioned their commitment to playing for us, they are a good team and just need pointing in the right direction which hopefully with the coaches now we are heading in the right direction.
