First win of the season for Bassett Under 9's

WOW – We WON, do I hear the crowd saying we are top of the league say we are top of the league, no I don't but that's what it feels like, what a great result against a mid table opposition and who knows what's going to happen in a year, with the right coaching these boys have got the potential to make their mark, it's going to be a slow process but in the end we will come out of it in the right direction.

The game kicked off and bearing in mind we lost quite heavily last year against this team Bassett started quite brightly, the back 2 of Will's and Callum, the new midfield of Jake, JD and Miles and up front of Josh started to play the ball round the field.

George in goal rolled the ball out to Callum who in turn kicked it to Jake (2) who in turned and ran and ran his socks off ran past most of the players but his finish was a tired shot and went wide of the post, during the first half Bassett had plenty of missed chances but the main thing was the team was creating the chances and that was pleasing to see, another goal kick which found JD, on receiving the ball JD ran down the wing and crossed it to Josh but Josh under pressure just shot wide.

Another chance was created by Miles, who threw the ball in who knocked the ball back by Jake and Miles shot with the ball just going wide again. This was the story of the 1st half, the team created a few chances but unable to break the deadlock, there was last minute tackling by Will's and Callum, George gaining more confidence as time went on,

2nd half started and Bassett at times were put under pressure by the corners from fairford, we found it difficult at times to see who was marking who and at times not at all, and this is where it all happened!!!!! Another Fairford corner it was intercepted by Jake who passed it out to Danny who started to run with the ball and the shout from the coaches smack it up field in turn what happened George on now for Josh who shot keeper saved and Jake took the rebound and smacked in the bottom of the net.

1 nil to Bassett and deservedly so, the endless running of Miles, Jake who never stopped and JD who made a great pass out of defence to Jake who ran onto the ball and scored again to make this 2 nil up, before the crowd had time to settle down we were 3 nil up by George who slammed the ball in the roof of the net. Even though we were 3 nil up fairford always looked dangerous on the break and with the midfield helping out at times and with Will's, Callum and George they were quite strong and getting good clearances on the ball to relieve the pressure that fairford put us under, due to a goal mouth scramble fairford squeezed the ball home to make it 3-1 to Bassett but straight from ko Danny soon stopped any ideas of a comeback making it 4 –1 to Bassett and that's how it stayed.

Overall the team` played well and it was a great win for them, but, and sorry there is a but, the players need now start battling for each other, they cannot take the ball round every member of the other team thinking they can beat them all, this is a team game the players need to, yes sometimes run with it but other times need to look up and see who is in a better position for the team to score or have that chance to.

But on that note well played lads you done really well and lets move forward as a team and maybe we can win some more games.
