Off the bottom for Christmas

Well how frustrating was today's game. We had our chances but were unable to finish the game off. Both teams started brightly and you could tell from the beginning it was going to be a hard fought contest, with both sides currently battling it out at the bottom of the table. Some good clearances from Miles and Callum in defence making sure the days of the heavy defeats are hopefully well and truly behind us now.

It was mid way through the first half that Jake, JD and Louis in midfield all combined well leading the way for Jake to make one of his runs through the centre and score – giving us a well deserved 1-0 lead. But once again, we became sleepy and with some miss-timed tackles led the way for Old Town to draw level.

We were unlucky not to go into the break in the lead when another good run by Jake fell to the feet of Josh up front who unfortunately miss-kicked the ball putting it wide of the Old Town goal.

With some stern talking at half-time and Reece on for Louis we started to play better, creating more chances. A throw in by Jake saw some good control by Reece who took a good shot at the goal and was unlucky to see the ball go wide. Further good runs by Jake and JD and another shot from Reece saw a good save this time by the Old Town Goalie.

It was from a goal kick by George B out to the side that allowed Jake to do a run down the wing and cross it over for Josh to get his foot just on the end of the ball and saw it go firstly along the goal-line and finally drop over the line giving us a hard fought 2-1 lead. Further shots just wide by Jake and we were unlucky not to extend the lead.

With the final whistle coming up and a good crowd – including the WBTFC Chairman – Mark Smedley – watching and waiting for our first home win of the season, Old Town made a good run through the centre and fired the ball towards goal, Miles first instinct was to shield his face and the ball having come off Miles shoulder – Old Town were awarded a penalty kick for handball????? This they converted to bring the score to 2-2. With Josh off and Reece now up front to try to get the winner the final whistle was blown shortly afterwards and even though it wasn't a loss – I feel we were robbed and deserved the three points this week.

Overall, I feel we are playing better as a team, working more for each other, and hopefully enjoying playing.

For those who are coming to the party – I will see you next Sat 23rd at Lazer-quest in town, those who aren't joining us – I wish you a Happy Christmas and New Year and looking forward to resuming in the new year.
