Bassett share 6 goals and the points with Stratton

After a few games being postponed we were back in action again today against a mid-table Stratton Juniors A.

The pitch at Ballards Ash having been affected by the adverse weather in recent weeks was turned up and this saw the ball difficult to play along the ground. The game itself started well with Bassett straight on the attack, with a change up front today in George Dow, some good passing moves by JD and Jake saw us challenging the Stratton goal early. The break through came when Stratton put some good moves together and was able to lift the ball pass the Bassett defence of Callum and Miles leaving the goalie – George with no hope at all as the ball hit the top corner.

With Bassett not wanting a repeat of when we last played against Stratton where we were heavy losers in a 9-1 defeat, we started to attack the Stratton goal. A good throw in by Callum saw Jake on to the loose ball and firing just wide. Not to get too down we again went in search of an equaliser and Jake this time powered a shot over the ailing Stratton defence and goalie on the bar and in. A well deserved and taken goal. Not content with a draw we were soon on the attack again this time with George Dow just firing wide.

The break came and some changes made at half time, with Danny moved up front and Jed on for George D, we started well. Attacking the Stratton goal at every opportunity – some good battles in midfield resulted in a run down the wing by Jed who crossed the ball over and Jake was there to knock it into the net to take us into the lead.

With the second half passing quickly a mis-timed tackle by Miles just outside the area saw Stratton awarded a free kick – which was well taken and found the top of the Bassett goal.

With Danny off and Andrew now up front doing some good running we were battling hard, starting the look like a team now and wanting and knowing we could win, Another good run by Jed down the wing crossed over & fumbled by the Statton goalie and Andrew was there to make sure the ball found the back of the net. With myself and the parents wishing the final seconds of the game away, another mis-timed tackle by Miles saw Stratton awarded a free kick – and with a repeat of there second goal a well taken free kick saw the Stratton boys elated and Bassett feeling robbed.

The final whistle then came after a last attack by Bassett. Not another win but not a lost either – the team are progressing well and are starting to believe we can win games.

Well played lads !!!!
