Bassett beaten away at Shrivenham in first game of New Year

Today we travelled to Shrivenham who are top of the league at the moment, and after the last time we played them, losing heavily they thought they were going to walk this one but they were wrong.

The match itself was fairly close even though we lost 4-1 the team did not deserve to lose by that margin if any at all. The game itself was close but the only difference, I thought, was they had the shape today and we did not. Half time came and we were 2 nil down, but straight from the start and within 20 seconds Jake picked up the ball ran past the whole team and smacked the ball into the net making it 2-1, Bassett maintained the pressure for a while and with Jake again clear through on goal got tangled up with Danny, so that chance came and went and with that Shrivenham went down the other end and scored to make it 3-1.

I thought the man of the match today was the keeper George; he was outstanding with his saves so well done to him.

There was plenty of running with Jake again and also Danny, but as a team we need to know when to pass and when to run with the ball, this is a team game not an individual sport. Also the defence needs to kick the ball out and not try and walk it out; we need to clear our box quickly and not mess around with it.

In saying that the team has progressed over the few weeks now and are looking stronger and starting to look like a team and we, I believe, are thinking now we can start winning games instead of losing them. I think next season the team will show its true potential of how good they really are, but they are progressing quite nicely now, we have good players in the team its just going to take time to shape them, and hopefully you can all see the change in them and their attitude towards the games now.

Well done boys, lets keep going and start moving up the table by the end of the season.
