Bassett under new management

Today's game saw a change in management and us playing the team just above us in the league. With little confidence in the team a win was needed – however, it was not to be.

Both teams started well with Eldene having most of the ball, Bassett played well but once again the midfield kept disappearing either to help out in defence or up front, they need to remember what positions there in and hold it, otherwise we end up with a big hole in the middle of the pitch.

Once again, defending from corners seemed to be a big falldown - with a couple of goal-mouth scrambles taking place. It was from one of these the first goal was conceeded – a cross over and the ball was knocked into the net with ease and with little challenge from the defence.

Bassett then seemed to think they were on the downward spiral already and once again sloppy play in midfield and little challenge from defence and no marking we found ourselves two down .

With a change in defence, now with Wills on and Miles off and Jed moved up to his favourable position in midfield we battled hard but were again caught out on the attack and found the ball scrambled just wide, with Eldene now dominating our half we struggled to clear the ball and with a shot from 20 yards from one of the Eldene players going straight into the net we all thought the infamous nine goal defeat was on the cards again.

Just before half time a goal kick by George B unfortunately found itself straight at the feet of an opposing player and with that the ball was knocked over his head and in to make us four down at the interval

After some strong talking at half time the players re-grouped with JD, Miles and Danny now in midfield, and Callum and Wills holding the defence with Josh up front. We started brighter and slowly started to turn the game around, with little play being done in our half, we were on the attack throughout but it was just the final ball we failed to finish. We did however, manage a consolation goal which was well taken by Josh.

With free-kicks by JD and Miles just going wide we were unfortunate not to score again. Danny played well down the wing but was under the impression he was a one-man team and tried to beat the whole of the opposing team and his own when looking up and finding a lone striker in Josh could have made some difference.

When the final whistle blew, and the game ending is rain with us four one losers, we have to remember this is the hopefully the turning point to the season and our first win is waiting for us at the next game on the 12th November.

Well done to the boys
