Bassett beat fellow strugglers Croft Juniors

Todays game saw us travel to Croft to play a fixture which was postponed earlier in the season, and saw us come out eventual winners 6-3, with Jake scoring 4.

The game started brightly and looked to be an evenly matched contest with both sides battling well for the ball, our main bonus today saw the wingers of Jake & Danny come into there own, with their pace we were winning every ball and putting Croft under pressure all the time. The break through came when a corner was taken well by Josh and found the feet of Jake who banged it into the net to make it 1-0. With the team starting to settle another good run by Jake ended in Bassett doubling there score to make it 2-0.

With Croft not wanting to admit defeat they started pressuring our goal and it was from a missed chance by them that saw George B do a big goal kick out which Josh ran on to and was unlucky to see the ball go wide. With another corner being the result, again well taken by Josh, Jake managed to swivel round to slot the ball home again to make it a hatrick for him and for the team. Stunned by this Croft battled back and with the Bassett team starting to get too complacent Croft managed to get through our strong defensive two of Callum and Miles and slot the ball into our net passed the outstretched arms of George.

With the first half over the team had it's usual half time team talk with some changes being made – Miles now having a go in goal for George B to play in midfield, Louis on for Josh and George H on for an unusually quiet JD. The team at this stage were also introduced to Don Rogers – whose grandson was playing for the opposition and who'd come to watch and even remarked that this was the best team that had played at Croft all season, what a compliment.

The second half started as the first half had with both teams battling hard, George B did play well out on the pitch and was obviously trying to make a good impression which he did but he's also fantastic in goal which he shouldn't forget. Croft having noticed our changes at half time were soon on the attack to challenge Miles and a good save and then kick out led to Croft attacking again and this time Miles wasn't so lucky and the ball went pass to make it 3-2. With cries from the parents, a reluctant George was put back in goal, with Miles back in defence with Callum. With Bassett not wanting to let another victory slip by we suddenly started to wake up and battle hard for the ball, with Danny doing some flying runs' down the right and crosses over (as learnt in training) Croft failed to clear the ball and Louis this time was able to find the net, scoring his first goal for us and more importantly restoring the 2 goal lead.

Some good running by the team, and some good stops and tackles by Miles, who went on one of his runs found Jake who buried the ball into the back of the net. Croft not to be outdone done some good play in the centre and was able to fire the ball into the back of the Bassett net.

With changes made and a revitalised JD back on instead of George H and Josh back up front instead of Louis, we started to play well with the team remembering what's being taught in training, to look up and pass the ball, not to bunch and to use our pacey wingers a good run down the wing and shot from Danny this time found the net to make it a win for us at 6 – 3.

Overall, a good performance by the team and with some good comments coming at the end by the opposing manager a well deserved victory.
