Bassett concede 9 for third week running

Today's game saw us travel down the road to Ferndale, with Bassett looking for their first win of the season, but being heavily defeated again in a game where the score gave little reflection to the actual match.

Ferndale started sprightly and was nearly gifted a goal in the opening minute when George B, fumbled a shot from the attackers. With the game being switched between both halves it was Bassett who got the opening when a through ball found Josh Dack upfront on his own with only the goal-keeper to beat which he did so in powerful style firing home the opener. Ferndales reply was to attack straight away which ended with a goalmouth scramble from Bassett. Good running by Jed down the wing with crosses over the centre failed to increase our lead, along with a corner from Josh which went straight to the opposing goalie. With that clearance by Ferndale the ball was straight in the Bassett area, which again was cleared by the defence of JD & Louis. A throw in by Ferndale then caused confusion with the Bassett defence which enabled a simple knock in by Ferndale to level the score.

From centre spot Ferndale were again on the attack straight away and only a goal line clearance by JD, and shoulder barging by both teams stopped Ferndale going into the lead. With a goal kick from the George B, the ball was into the opposing half, then saw a throw in by Jed to Josh and then a pass to Callum who just failed to get to the ball before Ferndales goalie, saw another chance to score disappear.

With good play by Ferndale George B nearly gifted them a goal when the ball went though his legs and just pass the post. The resulting corner was then knocked straight in for Ferndale to take the lead. From centre spot Ferndale gained the ball back and basically went straight through the centre of Bassett's midfield and defence and shot in the goal.

With us reeling from two goals in quick succession, Bassett tried to re-group and with Wills knocking the ball through to Jed, then onto Josh who fired just over. A free-kick by Callum went straight to the Ferndale goalie.

Second half saw Reece in goal and Ferndale went straight on the attack, a corner ball and a goal-mouth scramble resulted in another goal. With Bassett trying to re-group again they struggled to get the ball out of their own half. A foul on Louis, with a free-kick by Josh needed a save by the goalie.

Another goal by Ferndale after a mistake by Callum now playing in defence . And then another corner by Ferndale resulted in yet another goal-mouth scramble which was cleared by JD who played one of his best games today in defence, and also helping out with the midfield. A free-kick by Jed again needed a good clearance by Ferndale.

As the game continued Ferndale began to gain in confidence and with some strong play and a few dodgy decisions by the ref saw another corner to Ferndale, which this time Reece caught , a kick out by Reece failed to get to a bassett player and again Ferndale found the back of the net. With Bassett now slowly losing faith they were again found losing their way and after some slow play by Louis the ball ended in the net again.

With Ferndale still intent on scoring bassett dreading the nine goal defeat again, we battled hard with Reece taking a kick in the chest for his efforts. A clearance by JD was unlucky and deflected of a Ferndale player and went back towards the goal where a lone striker fired the ball pass Reece, into the goal to make it nine.

Looking for a consolation goal and with the promise of some Freddo Frogs by Michelle (JD's Mum) if we managed to get one, the chance fell to Josh whose free kick went wide of the post.

So no first win of the season and no Freddo Frogs for the boys – but they played well and battled hard.
