Bassett played like they had partied all night

Well what a difference a week makes – fielding the same team that drew last week against Stratton, we thought we stood a chance against Liden who are only just a few points above us, also having played 2 more games – well I was wrong.

Bassett played as if they'd all been up late the night before partying, the defence of Callum and Miles were very sluggish and not moving around at the beginning, with many of the time leaving George B is goal very exposed to the Liden attackers.

Liden were soon on the attack and many times were able to go through the midfield of JD, Jake and Danny too easily, and it was from one of these runs that Liden took the well deserved lead.

Bassett soon found themselves two down again with sloppy play and with too many players trying for the same ball and not getting into their own space, leaving the wings bare and giving Liden a free run down them.

A goal mouth scramble in the Liden area saw Andrew find the back of the net to try to put us back in the game, and with a free kick awarded to us – Jake stepped up and was unfortunate to see the ball go just wide of the goal.

Liden then went on the break again and when a cross came in – Callum found his hands in the air to stop the ball and this saw Liden awarded a penalty kick – which was fired home passed the outstretched arms of George. When the half time whistle finally blew we found ourselves four one down.

The second half started with a change in positions, Callum off and JD dropped back into defence, with a midfield now of Jed, Danny and Jake. Some good battling on both fronts with Liden having the edge all the time, saw them increase their lead soon after the start. With us continuing to try to get back into the game a corner ball saw the ball go just wide of the Liden goal.

When a free kick was awarded to us – Jake stepped up and this time found the back of the net. Liden soon bounced back and increased their lead too easily for my liking, with the final minutes ticking by and with nothing else to lose Callum and George D was put into midfield instead of Jed and Danny and some good one two between Callum and Jake and Jake was able to make if two goals for him, three for us in total – by the time the final whistle came the result was 7-3 to Liden

I feel that Bassett today made Liden look good with our poor, sluggish play. With some issues being raised which will be addressed at the training ground next Friday if we're to stop another poor display like today's.
