Bassett put up spirited performance against leaders

League leaders Wroughton A were made to work hard for the points by Wootton Bassett Town a boggy Maunsell Way. Adam Leighfield put Wroughton in front with a deft chip but Josh Dimond equalised for Wootton Bassett following a Phil Tearle free kick. Just on the stroke of half time, Bassett had a throw in on the edge of the Wroughton box but conceded possession and saw the home side hit them decisively on the break, the ball eventually looping into the Bassett net after a deflection off Wroughton striker Adam Leighfield. Bassett had a number of chances in the second half but the closest they came was when thy hit the post. In the closing stages of the game a cross from Adam Leighfield deceived the Bassett defence and looped into the far corner of the net to give the divisions′ top scorer his hat-trick. Sean Bailey then completed the scoring with a last minute strike after a defence splitting through ball put him clear of the Bassett defence.
