Good start to the season continues

Wootton Bassett Town Under 16′s continued their good start to the season with a dominating performance over Lydiard Youth. Such was Bassett′s total control of the match that keeper Richard Hanley only had one shot on goal all game. Phil Tearle got Bassett off to a good start when he won the race to the ball with the Lydiard keeper and found himself with an empty net and made no mistake. Two well taken goals from Tom Marchment, having another impressive game, plus one from Aaron Stevens gave Bassett a 4-0 lead at the break. Sam Higginbottom had been the supplier of much of the dangerous balls into the box, linking well with Phil Teare down the right. Bassett were not so convincing with their football in the early part of the second half as Lydiard battled to try and get back into the game. Goals stopped flowing as Bassett stopped passing the ball, players looking to do too much. The fifth goal did not arrive until 20 minutes into the second period when Tom Marchment clinched a hat-trick finishing off a flowing move. The same player then added two further goals to take his tally for the match to five. Phil Tearle grabbed his second but the best was left to Josh Dimond who hit a stunning shot from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net. 9-0 to Bassett the final score ahead of Thursday′s big game with Wroughton A.
