Change of formation sees change in fortune

After last week's rain off and the disastrous performance at Highworth the week before we made the journey up the motorway to the brilliant facilities at Didcot looking for a much-improved display on a superb pitch with the return of Ben Gascoyne and John Magani making his first reserve team appearance of the season. Before the game the management duo decided that for the remainder of this season we will play with the 4-4-2 formation that served us so well earlier in the season and we will pick the team in accordance to this and not accommodate players at the risk of upsetting this system. We started the game superbly and could have taken the lead in the first few minutes as Hammo had a shot superbly saved and Howsie had a header cleared off the line following excellent corners from Steve Bunting. Didcot were never allowed to settle on the ball as we fought for every ball and tackled back to win possession at every opportunity. The two wide men of Bunts and fat boy Gazza looked to have the beating of their markers every time and Bunts was unlucky when his cross shot took a deflection and struck the post with the keeper beaten as we continued to look dangerous and could count ourselves unlucky not to go into half time in front.

The second half was as just impressive as we continued to dominate possession and after sixty minutes we went in front when an excellent through ball from Matt Phillips was lashed into the net from 15 yards by the impressive Ben Gascoyne. Shortly after this we had to replace Stu Hemsley who had a rib injury with Harry Sandhu and Moses replaced the tiring Mark Hammond but we continued to create chances and John Magani went close after a superb piece of skill and defensively we looked solid and the fact that turns didn't have a shot to save in the entire 90 minutes was testimony to that as we went on to complete a memorable victory and finally produced a team performance that we are capable of and send us into next week's cup match at Shrivenham in high spirits.
