Ten man Bassett pick up a point in controversial game

We maintained our good start to the season with a well-earned point in a game that could only be described as bizarre both for ourselves, and the unfortunate Harkit Sandhu.

In a game that we controlled from the start we were denied two stone wall penalties as well as Nathan being whacked in the face by a blatant elbow that the ref described as accidental and gave a free kick but no card of any form. Then after taking the lead from a Nathan goal we appeared to score a second from Harkit but after giving the goal it was disallowed after the club linesman put his flag up for offside from a position of at least 40 yards from the incident and his subsequent smile said it all.

If Harkit thought he was hard done by then his afternoon was about to get even worse as in Hungerford's next attack his goal line clearance rebounded from his knee onto his hand and he was sent off and a goal was scored from the resulting penalty.

To the players credit we regrouped and continued to play some good football but Hungerford scored against the run of play and it looked like it was going to be one of those days but then to everybody's amazement the referee awarded us a penalty when Nathan was hacked down in the box and Stewart Hemsley scored from the spot to make the half time score 2-2.

Several chances came and went in the second half but no further goals were scored and it was incredible to come out of the game disappointed not to win after playing seventy minutes with ten men and still dominating the game.
