No clean sheet for stand-in keeper Burke this time

In our third home game in seven days, we entertained Abingdon who were second from bottom of the league in the hope of recording a victory. Again, we went into the game without a keeper so player manager Paul Burke was again handed the gloves and hopeful of a performance of the same calibre at Henley the last time he had to go in goal from the team in front of him. From the very start of the game, we were second best and looked very lethargic in everything we did against a side who looked far better than their league position and we were soon behind when a cross from the left was met with a free header to put Abingdon in the lead and the defence appealing for offside which never was going to come. To make matters worse we then conceded another goal when a corner wasn't cleared, and Adam Greaney was outjumped at the back post to put our visitors further in front and go into half time 2-0 up.

The second half was a better effort from us and with a bit of luck we could of got at least one goal as Abingdon settled on their lead but luck is something in my opinion you only get when you deserve it and our performance in this game certainly didn't merit it and we sank to another home defeat and slipped further down the league as our season seems to be falling apart after a very good start. The players and the management have got to try and get some confidence back as we haven't become a bad side overnight and there's a long way to go in the season yet and try to stop the slump.
