Big win over ten man Cirencester United

This match was a sorry tale for our opponents who turned up with only ten players and the only question was how our players would react to the situation and could we keep our shape and record an elusive clean sheet in the process.

After getting to grips with the way our opponents started we soon took the lead through Mark King who finished well after beating the offside trap and further first half goals from Simon Jones (first of the season), Steve Howse and Justin Hyde gave us a comfortable lead but the clean sheet went up in smoke when a mistake from Craig Maclaren resulted in a goal for Ciren and made the half time score 4-1 in our favour.

Our second half objective was to try and get the ball down and play some football which the players did and we looked like scoring every time we went forward and soon we went further in front with goals from Lee Morse and two more from Kingy who in doing so completed his first hat-trick in senior football being going off with cramp and Matt Phillips who opened his account for the club with a screamer from twenty five yards.

But the best goal of the afternoon was to be scored by (player manager)Paul Burke who after a dazzling run starting from just inside his own half left defender after defender in his wake before calmly slipping the ball in off the post from a somewhat impossible angle and was unlucky not to add to his account when the keeper made an outstanding save from a curling thirty yarder.

We spent the last five minutes trying to get the tenth goal but didn't succeed and we must take satisfaction that we kept trying to pass and kept our shape throughout the ninety minutes.
