Manager Burke keeps a clean sheet in Bassett win

After last week's moral boosting victory we travelled to Henley anticipating a much tougher match and that was how it turned out to be. We started the game without a recognised keeper so it was down to player manager Paul Burke to don the gloves in the hope that he wasn't going to have an awfully busy afternoon. Henley were very upbeat after beating league leaders Finchampstead the previous week but we started the game very well and matched them and it was evident from the early exchanges that this was going to be a very tight game. We defended very well and looked sharp when attacking with Ben Gascoyne having a very good game for us but the first half ended without a real opening for either side and we went into the break at 0-0.

The second half started and we gradually began to dominate the possession and try to break the deadlock and good chances fell to both Gazza and Justin Hyde who were both denied by the home keeper in quick succession and at the other end the back four of Simon Jones, Walshy, Craig Maclaren and Howsie protected the keeper superbly. With the game looking like ending in a stalemate and with both sides cancelling each other we then scored a superb goal from Justin Hyde with ten minutes to go turning the defender and firing into the goal from 12 yards to give us the lead and a lead that we held onto without much trouble to gain a very hard earned victory and our first clean sheet since the very first game of the season.
