Someone at Bassett has clearly run over a cat at some stage this season as no team can suffer so many cruel blows in a season as Wootton Bassett Under 14's. In the home fixture earlier in the season, Greenmeadow had won the match with a last grasp strike from Josh Henshall and the Swindon side repeated the performance, once again winning courtesy of a last minute goal. This after Bassett had come back from two goals down to level the match. Greenmeadow had taken the lead when Craig Munday failed to hold a free-kick which rebounded off the bar into the path of a Greenmeadow player following up. Bassett were then caught out at the back as another defensive error allowed Greenmeadow to go 2 up. Dominic Juggins got Bassett back into the match when he followed up a Tom Marchment header that came back off the bar to volley in. Bassett had not deserved to be two down and continued to trouble the top of the table side throughout the half, denying them the space to play their normal passing game.

In the second half Bassett continued to press forward for an equaliser and were rewarded with a penalty when Jonny Aitkenhead was brought down just inside the box. Dominc Juggins cooly fired home to level the scores. Bassett then had a golden chance to win all three points when Jonny Aitkenhead was put through but his shot was well saved by Dwain in the Greenmeadow goal. With time running out there was to be a cruel twist when Phil Forster was caught dribbling on the edge of the box and his attempted clearance rebounded straight to a Greenmeadow striker who fired home from the narrowest of angles to give Greenmeadow top spot in the league. An unfair result given how well Bassett had played but in a season of narrow defeats the record books will unfortunately still show this as a Greenmeadow victory.
