Bassett crash out of the cup against Westbrook

A disappointing result but Bassett played some good football but were just could not hit the target all game. Bassett fell behind on 2 minutes when Hobbs out paced the Bassett defence and fired a powerful shot past Munday in the Bassett goal. Bassett nearly equalised on 12 minutes when Dominic Juggins headed just wide from a Jonny Aitkenhead corner. Hobbs extended the lead for the visitors with an almost identical goal, getting behind Bassett's defence and firing past Munday. Shaun Mochan almost replied immediately for Bassett a minute later when put through by Tearle, but his shot went agonisingly past the post. A minute later Dominc Juggins was put clean through but shot over the top of the goal. In the 24th minute Jonny Aitkenhead fired in a free kick which went just over. Despite a lot of Bassett pressure and chances the visitors led 2-0 at the break.

Bassett continued to push forward for the vital goal which would haul them back into the game but pressed the self destruct button on 45 minutes when Josh Dimond and David Lazenby both left it for each other and a Westbrook player nipped between the two and tucked the ball into the net. On 65 minutes Westbrook made it 4-0 and added a 5th in the dying minutes. Bassett were left to rue a host of missed first half chances and now have little more than pride to play for the rest of the season as they are now out of the cup and in a lowly league position.
