Bassett go down in cracking game with Greenmeadow

A cracking game was settled two minutes from time by a superb goal from Josh Henshall, this goal gave Henshall his hat-trick. Greenmeadow had gone in front after 20 minutes after a mix-up in the Bassett defence allowed Henshall to score. Mike Ford put Bassett back in the game scoring with a header from a corner for the second consecutive week. Dean Wason then put Bassett in front with a curling shot into the top corner of the net from the left hand side of the box. Bassett led at the break and deservedly so. It could have been a lot more, three times Phillip Tearle was through one on one against the Greenmeadow keeper Dwain Stratford, but each time it was the keeper who came out on top.

Greenmeadow were back in the game within minutes of the restart when indecision in the Bassett defence led to a needless own goal. Greenmeadow now started to get on top and another error in the Bassett defence allowed Henshall to put Greenmeadow in front. With ten minutes to go Bassett were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Jonny Aitkenhead fired the ball in from 25 yards. Three-all and a draw looked a fair result in a pulsating match. However, Henshall was put away over the top in the closing minutes and he out paced the Bassett defence to fire an unstoppable shot past Craig Munday to give the visitors all three points. An excellent game of football played in a sporting manner by both sides.
