Bassett lose narrowly in Cup play-off thriller

It was play-off time in the Under 14 Subsidiary Cup and in the only game to survive the weather there was a thriller at Ballards Ash between Wootton Bassett Town and Croft Juniors. Playing on a very wet pitch both sides contributed to an excellent match with some flowing moves and plenty of goal mouth action. Croft went in front early on through an own goal, but Bassett came back almost immediately, Tom Marchment on his return from injury taking advantage of a miskick by the Croft keeper in the difficult wet conditions. After the break Croft scored again through Tom Wilde only for Bassett to peg them back once again when Dominic Juggins headed in from a corner. Tom Marchment then put Bassett ahead for the first time but a goal from Sam Elwood once again restored parity in this end to end match. With time running out and extra time looming Robert Warenjso broke clear of the Bassett defence down the right-hand side and finished coolly to put Croft into the last eight where they will meet Westbrook next week.
