Bassett return to winning ways

An impressive first half performance saw the Under 14's go second in the league. Bassett started like a team possessed and worked the ball into the channels and got behind the Fairford defence and put over some telling crosses. In only the 2nd minute Dominic Juggins scored from a Phil Tearle cross. Tom Marchment made in 2-0 just 2 minutes later and Juggins made in 3-0 in the 7th minute. Bassett then allowed Fairford to get back into the match when Fairford's dangerous right winger fired in an unstoppable shot past Craig Munday in the Bassett goal. Dominc Juggins scored his third of the game on 20 minutes and what a goal it was. Fine build up play saw Phil Tearle get behind the Fairford defence and his pin point cross was met on the volley with a scissor kick and the ball flew into the net. Having made most of the goals it was then Phil Tearle's turn to score, making it 5-1 Bassett on 25 minutes.

After an impressive first half and despite instructions to keep the shape and continue to play passing football, Bassett went to pieces in the second half. Instead of passing everyone now wanted to score and too much dribbling with the ball meant Bassett lost the momentum. Phil Tearle did however add a 6th on 45 minutes and Dean Wason made it 7-1 on 53 minutes. Credit to Fairford who kept going an 2 late goals gave the final score a less decisive look than really was the case. Nevertheless, Bassett moved into second place and meet league leaders Westbrook next Saturday in a game brought forward 24 hours at the request of Westbrook.
