Bassett give leaders an initial fright

Westbrook retained top spot with a hard-earned victory at Wootton Bassett. Bassett gave them an initial fright when the home side went in front within three minutes of the start, Tom Marchment-Williams heading past the Westbrook keeper. Westbrook replied almost immediately when Guy Whinfrey fired an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box past Bassett keeper Craig Munday. Westbrook, the physically stronger of the two sides, then started to dominate play and scored twice more in quick succession through Joshua Digby and Matthew Hobbs to lead 3-1 at half time. Wootton Bassett came back at Westbrook in the second half and got themselves back into the match when Tom Marchment-Williams scored his second of the match, firing a left foot shot passed the substitute Westbrook keeper. Bassett were then denied a penalty when Phil Tearle looked to have been brought down in the box. Bassett continued to put pressure on the leaders but then fell to a sucker punch when losing the ball in midfield Westbrook broke away and Matthew Hobbs restored the two-goal margin.
