Bassett hold league leaders to a draw

A superb performance from the Under 13's as they held league leaders Stratton Juniors to a 0-0 draw. This was the first time ever that Bassett had not lost to Stratton dating back to when the two sides played each other at Under 9 mini-soccer. The result was built on a hard-working defensive performance with Jonny Aitkenhead and Phillip Forster particularly outstanding in the Bassett back four. However, it would be unfair to just mention these two players as the whole team worked tirelessly for the whole match and could have actually won the game, certainly being much the better side in the first half, taking the play to the league leaders. It was only in the closing minutes of the match that Stratton really asserted themselves on the game but Bassett held out, also creating the best chance of the match themselves in the last couple of minutes but unfortunately nothing came of it. This result meant that if Stratton lose to Greenmeadow next week the title could be heading to Greenmeadow just as Stratton looked like they had it sown up.
