Friendly win for Bassett U13's

In a hastily arranged friendly following the loss of the scheduled league fixture against Ferndale Rodbourne, Bassett got back to winning ways with a comfortable 5-1 win over younger opponents. In a game played over three periods of 25 minutes to allow the visitors to experiment with their formation ahead of their cup semi-final next week, it was the visitors who started the better of the two teams and went in front from the penalty spot following a foul by Sean Toomey. At the end of the first period the visitors were still in front with Bassett struggling to make an impression. A series of substitutions were made at the break and this led to a much-improved showing from Bassett. Phil Tearle put Bassett back on level terms within a minute of the restart and then one of the substitutes, Luke Cressey, scored a hat-trick to give Bassett a 4-1 lead at the second break. Cressey, rarely selected this season, put in a man-of the-match performance that will see him keep his place for the next match. In the final period a Peter Willis header gave a final score of 5-1 to Bassett in what had been a very sporting game. The visitors were a very good footballing side and at times you would have struggled to see that they were a year younger than the Bassett players.
