U13's return to winning ways

Stratton took the lead against the run of play after 10 minutes. Bassett continued to have most of the play but found the Stratton defence, superbly marshalled by their sweeper, in a resolute mood. Bassett eventually got back on level terms when a flowing move down the right involving Josh Dimond, Shaun Mochan and Phillip Tearle saw the latter cross for Jonny Aitkenhead to tap in from the edge of the six-yard box. The second half saw two evenly matched sides both playing some excellent football but the two defences continued to deny clear scoring chances. With fifteen minutes remaining Bassett broke the deadlock, Jonny Aitkenhead was put clear of the Stratton defence, rode a tackle to chip the ball over the Stratton keeper. A couple of minutes later a tremendous low volley from Tom Marchment from the edge of the box extended Bassett's lead and the same player scored with a scissor kick five minutes from time to give the final score a flattering look to it. This had been a very close sporting game played in in difficult slippery conditions.
