Another friendly win for Bassett U13's

A comfortable win against opponents from the Second Division in this friendly at the Ash. Bassett went a goal down when Bassett "old-boy" Matt Povey lobbed his schoolmate Craig Munday from the edge of the box to put Shaw in front. Bassett responded with a fine equaliser scored by Tom Marchment following a through ball from Dean Wason. Jonny Aitkenhead, having his most influential game for some time, made it 2-1 to Bassett shortly afterwards and Bassett were then in control of the game. The same two players scored again before the break to give Bassett a 4-1 interval lead.

In the second half Bassett were well on top and Marchment and Aitkenhead both completed their hat-tricks, Peter Willis scored twice and Dan Strange took his total for the season to two with a well taken shot with the outside of his foot following a fine run. Shaw never gave up, scored a second towards the end of the match and could have another following a good run from Matt Povey. Bassett's central midfield were back on song today and the team plays so much better when the engine in the centre in the shape of Josh Dimond and Dean Wason are firing on all cylinders. A hatful of goals despite top striker Phil Tearle being absent through injury. If only we could have a league fixture!! Two games since Christmas through no fault of our own is very disappointing. Next week's league fixture is now also off due to Westbrook's cup match being postponed today but a friendly has been arranged with Ramsbury at the Ash.
