Big win in County Cup

A comprehensive win for the Under 13's which makes it three wins in a row. Bassett started right from the kick-off, gaining possession from Castle Combe who had kicked-off and scoring through Phil Tearle. A minute later Tom Marchment fired just over and then hit the bar in Bassett's next attack. Bassett continued to press forward and hit the woodwork again on 10 minutes when Jonny Aitkenhead got on the end of a Shaun Mochan cross. The second goal, however, did not come until the 12th minute when a Bassett corner fell to Stuart Smedley on the edge of the box who fired high into the net, 2-0 Bassett. Tow minutes later Bassett were further in front when Shaun Mochan rifled a powerful shot past Blake in the Castle Combe goal. Phil Terale put Bassett 4-0 up in the 19th minute with yet another powerful shot and Tom Marchment made it 5 with a great shot on the turn. At the other end Bassett's defence had little to do and whatever did come their way was comfortably dealt with by Craig Munday, Mike Ford, Dan Strange & Sean Toomey. Jonny Aitkenhead headed just over on 27 minutes from a Phil Tearle cross, but Bassett did manage to extend their lead a minute later when Phil tearle struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box into the Castle Combe net. Bassett turned round 6-0 to the good and comfortably in control. A tactical change just after half-time saw Dan Strange pushed up front and this paid off in the 42nd minute when an excellent cross from Shaun Mochan was powerfully headed into the net by Dan Strange, his second goal in 106 games for the Club and his first since the team played at the Under 9 age group. Bassett continued to press forward and were rewarded with further goals from Dean "Sonic the Hedgehog" Wason, Phil Tearle (his 4th of the game), Shaun Mochan (his 2nd of the game) and Sean Toomey. Special mention to Bassett's hard-working midfielder and captain, Jonny Aitkenhead. He played really well all match but was unable to make the score sheet despite some close efforts in a man-of-the match performance. He did think he had scored in the last minute, but the goal was unfortunately disallowed for offside. An 11-0 win for Bassett which was never in doubt as Bassett progressed to the last 16 of the Wilts F.A. Cup.
