Poor showing leads to big loss in County Cup

Greenmeadow. Whilst Greenmeadow played very well there is no excusing the lack of commitment, courage and passion from the majority of the Bassett side. The only two players to emerge from the game with credit were Phillip Forster and Mike Ford. Bassett trailed 3-0 at the break, the first two goals being identical, a Greenmeadow player being allowed to travel with the ball, fire a shot at goal which was well saved by Craig Munday only for a Greenmeadow player to react first to the rebound and score. Bassett being second to react to the loose ball was the story of the match. Slow, lethargic and losing tackles that were 70:30 in Bassett's favour, this was by the worst performance by Bassett all season, shame it came in the most important game of the saeson. The third goal right on the stroke of half time meant Bassett had to go for it in the second if they were to stay in the competition.

Mike Ford was pushed into midfield, as Bassett sought to try and get themselves back in the game, and in the opening minutes of the second half Bassett did start to play better. Unfortunately, a fourth goal killed off any hopes of progressing in the competition. An injury to David Lazenby caused a further defensive re-shuffle and then Greenmeadow just overran the Bassett defence, scoring three more goals. Bassett had the chance to score a consolation goal in the last minute but goalkeeper Craig Munday's penalty was well saved by the Greenmeadow keeper. A performance to forget, very quickly! Hopefully the real Bassett will show up next week in the cup quarter-final against Westbrook, the last competition that Bassett have a realistic chance of winning this season.
