Bassett lose in league cup despite improved showing

A final score line that somewhat flattered the visitors as Bassett put up a much-improved performance. The score remained 0-0 until 15 minutes from time when Bassett gifted the visitors a lead, giving away a short goal kick. Another defensive slip up 5 minutes from time meant Bassett were really up against it and the decision to throw Mike Ford forward back-fired as Bassett's defence, denied the covering pace offered by Bassett's best defender, conceded two further goals. Both goals came from poor defending, an area Bassett must improve on if they are to win again this season. Bassett's best chance of the day fell to Phil Tearle, just after Westbrook went in front, but his shot was well saved by the Westbrook keeper who also saved the follow-up shot. A disappointing final score but at least this week there was some passion and pride was restored. Westbrook are a very strong side and should make the final of this competition but will be hoping to miss Greenmeadow in the semi-final draw. Special mention to Pete Willis, sub all season or not even selected some weeks, but picked from the start for the first time this season he put in a man-of-the match performance and will retain his starting position next week, despite the likely return of two players missing today.
