Good win over strong Wroughton side

An excellent result and performance, particularly in the first half against a side who defeated Bassett comprehensively 3 times last season. The win took Bassett level on points with league leaders Westbrook and Greenmeadow, although the other two sides have games in hand. The first half saw Bassett in total control and the home side could easily have led 10-0 at half time. In the end Bassett had to settle for 4 but they were 4 cracking goals. The pick of the bunch was Phil Tearle's nutmeg of a Wroughton defender followed by a shot from the edge of the area with the outside of his foot which screamed into the corner of the net. The other 3 goals were all well made goals, finished clinically by Dean Wason, Stuart Smedley and Tom Marchment. As mentioned above it could easily have been a lot more as Bassett totally dominated their opponents.

Unfortunately, half time seemed to have an adverse effect on Bassett's play and they let Wroughton dominate the midfield, mainly thanks to the half time introduction of Jack Hiscock. Two defensive slip ups let Wroughton get themselves back into the match, when Bassett should have had the three points secured. Thankfully Bassett did add a 5th through substitute Sean Toomey to put the result beyond doubt. Despite the second half scare an excellent result and a performance which thoroughly deserved the three points.
