Stratton jinx strikes again

Dr Jeckyll rather than Mr Hyde turned up for Bassett today with the same predictable result. Bassett had looked like they might actually break the Stratton jinx (Bassett have never beaten Stratton dating back to Under 9 mini-soccer) in the opening 10 minutes as they were on top but it was a false hope. Stratton pushed Dave Glover forward and began to dominate, playing some excellent neat passing football. With the first half drawing to a close, a needlessly conceded free kick saw a Stratton player curl a free-kick, Beckham style into the top corner of the net. Bassett then allowed the visitors to extend the lead in the last 30 seconds of the half and all the good work earlier in the half had been undone. Bassett rarely come back from such deficits and with the front two surprisingly quiet all afternoon Bassett did not really trouble the Stratton keeper. Two late goals gave Stratton a comfortable win that sent them joint top of the league. As with the recent cup matches, Bassett did not compete in midfield, continually gave the ball away and just did not do themselves justice. This is becoming a habit in big matches. The management team are clearly not getting through to the players, who no longer seem motivated to play for the managers or the club and perhaps it is time for someone else to step in because the raw talent is there. Any volunteers?
