Disappointing defeat for U13's

A disappointing result in a hard fought game against physical opponents. There was little between the sides in the first half and it looked like the game would turn round without a goal but a slip up in the last minute by the Bassett defence allowed Old Town to go in 1-0 up at the break. Bassett could and should have had two goals of their own in this half but were denied by Max Scholefield in the Old Town goal in one-on-one situations.

Bassett started the second half badly allowing Old Town to extend their lead following a poor clearance. Things got even worse when a good inter-change of passes saw Old Town go three up. Bassett immediately switched Mike Ford into midfield and started to chase the game. A fine goal from Jonny Aitkenhead following a one-two with Josh Dimond bought Bassett back into the match. Bassett continued to push forward and a scrambled goal from Mike Ford gave Bassett hope of being able to salvage a point from the match. Old Town hit the bar in the closing stages but at the other end Phil Tearle was put through for two more one-on-ones with the Old Town keeper but on each occasion Scholefield came out on top to enable the home side to take all three points. Bassett will need to play better next week against top of the table Ferndale Rodbourne but this was not a bad performance against a side who will do well following their promotion last season.
