Robbo pair recovers a point

The Heights, Saturday 5th March 2016

Steve Robertson bagged a pair to take him to 30 goals for the season as Royal Wootton Bassett Town twice came from behind to claim a point away at Milton United.

While they may only have taken a point from the game, Royal Wootton Bassett Town produced some of their best attacking football for a number of weeks in a 2-2 draw away at Milton United.

Paul Braithwaite's team showed resolve too, twice overcoming deficits to peg their hosts back. And had they demonstrated a slightly greater level of composure in front of goal, they would likely have come away from Oxfordshire with all three points.

Defensively, work still appears to be done, as evidenced by Milton's opening goal just seven minutes in. Curtis Meare had produced a fine parry to repel the initial effort, yet he was let down by his backline, who failed to react to the rebound, allowing Adam Bruce to steal in and score.

Bassett were on level terms quarter of an hour in as Steve Robertson fired in first time from the edge of the area following a Dan Comer cut back.

Milton's second came as the Bassett defence failed to deal with another shot, the ball falling to Will Norton, who scored from the edge of the area.

However, a finely worked goal brought the visitors level again. A flowing move culminated in Adam Corcoran playing a stunning diagonal ball forward, which Robertson re-directed into the opposite corner with a stooping header.

Following the restart it was Bassett who had the better of the chances, the best arguably falling to Dale Richards who failed to capitalise when played through on goal.

A point may in the end have been frustrating, but it keeps Bassett in touch with those sides just above them ahead of a nine day lay-off.
