Bassett beat a much improved Shaw side

The last time Bassett met Shaw Bassett put 10 past them, this meeting was going to be a little different as Shaw had been working hard to improve their performance. From the kick off Bassett looked the stronger team with Shaw defending deep with ten men. This made Bassett's attacks very tough. Bassett were playing very good one touch football keeping Shaw back in their own half. Arron and Callum M were linking up well and it was this relationship which brought the first goal. Callum ran with the ball down the right and cut back inside, Callum then played a great ball into the path of Arron, and Arron ran onto the ball and then was pushed to the floor by the Shaw defender earning a penalty. Arron takes the penalty, cracking the ball to the right of the Shaw goal keeper, Bassett take the lead. Bassett pushed and pushed from the second but all credit to Shaw they defended very well, with almost 6 defenders. Callum and Josh swapped wings with the aim of pushing the game wide which may open up the Shaw defence.

Fraser was attacking well, and played a great ball to Arron, Arron turned and passed to Josh W, Josh shoots but the shot was saved. Bassett were camped in the Shaw half forcing two consecutive corners but again Shaw kept Bassett out, but with so many players behind the ball there were almost no attacks on our own goal.

The game moved into 10 minutes of continued Bassett pressure, which we struggled to breakdown, Bassett were on top but could not find the back of the net. Tyler and Josh were battling well, this was supported by Sam and I must say they were having a tough time as one Bassett forward was very quickly closed down by two or three Shaw defenders. Dale and Scott were playing well in the back four pushing forward when required picking up the lose balls and playing in our midfield. Jack and Regan were covering well, but only tested by the occasional ball over the top, but most went directly to Joe.

As Shaw was defending so deep, it was hard to get Sam or Josh to run in behind their back four or was that six! A good ball finds a gap in the Shaw wall, and Josh for the first time find some space to run at the Shaw goal keeper, Josh shoots but the ball hits directly at the keeper who makes the save. Then against the run of play Shaw break down the middle with a long ball, Joe runs out of his goal and clears the ball between both Jack and Regan. Callum, now on the left, picks up the ball and runs at the Shaw defence, he beats both defenders and crosses the ball, the goal keeper is about the make the save, but a Shaw defender clears the ball out for a corner. The corner is taken well, and Shaw struggle to clear their lines, Josh finds him on the ball and shoots and the ball flies into the back of the net, Bassett are now two up.

Bassett are still on top and Shaw are struggling to clear the ball from their own half as Bassett place phase after phase of attacks, Sam wins the ball and plays in Fraser, Fraser shoots but the ball travels over the top of the Shaw cross bar. Half time Bassett are two up.

The start of the second half see's one change, Fraser is replaced by Michael. Again Bassett attack through Callum, Callum wins the ball in midfield and passes to Sam who shoots but the shot is saved. Dale moves up from left back supporting Callum and Tyler, Tyler lays the ball back to Dale, Dale shoots but the ball lifts high over the top of the Shaw goal. Callum and Scott are working hard on the right playing several one two's beating the Shaw defenders. Callum is replaced by Max and then Regan pushes a little forward and works some space in the middle of the pitch, Regan releases a big shot which is heading towards the Shaw goal, the goal keeper pushes the ball away into the path of Josh, Josh controls the ball well he smacks the ball into the back of the net. Bassett are now three up, but it's not easy for our forwards as Shaw are still defending with 6 players.

Scott is replaced by Jake and Arron is replaced by Fraser. Bassett are still pushing Shaw back but are still struggling to break Shaw down, I must say their defence has much improved since our last encounter. Sam and Tyler produce some good link play allowing Tyler some room to get the shot away, but the shot is not on target. I do feel that we lacked some width and kept playing the ball through the middle and with Shaw placing 10 men behind the ball we made it very difficult for ourselves. Max is working hard but Shaw closes the door every time Max attacked. Bassett earn a free kick some 25-30 feet away from the goal, Tyler steps up and cracks the ball over the wall and between the crossbar and the goal keeper fingers for Bassett fourth goal. Jake is playing well at the back clearing the ball well giving Michael a chance to run onto a ball or two, but Shaw made this very tough. With the end of the second half approaching Bassett continue to push forward, a goal mouth scramble offers opportunities for both Sam and Max who had shots cleared off the line. Final score 4-0.
